Ever since I visited Italy on a travel abroad trip when I was in college, I’ve been enamored by the idea of being a travel writer. Over the years since then, I’ve dabbled with the idea of writing in general and have always come back to those few weeks in Italy, documenting everything I was eating, drinking, seeing, and reading. I was truly immersed in that experience and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.
I’ve worked several jobs since then— none of which involved traveling or writing, and am now a Military Spouse and stay at home mom to my son and two rescue dogs. While these things do bring me so much joy, I still find myself chasing that feeling— the feeling of experiencing new things and letting the words flow out of me to document and share those experiences.
So here I am now, approaching my 32nd birthday next week, still trying to catch up to some of those feelings that seem to always be calling to me. While this may not be as exciting as the travel writing I have read during my college years, (the ones that opened my eyes to this world of documenting travel experiences), it’s at least a way for me to find that high I felt while I was abroad— That rush of adrenaline I feel whenever I think about going back to Italy one day and the fond memories I have of being there almost ten years ago. As I may not find myself traveling any farther than the front porch, or into town for a cup of coffee and a change of scenery, I still hope to find glimmers of that feeling in my everyday experiences. Through those glimmers, I hope you’re able to find some of those threads running through your own life. I’m talking to you, the one who feels stuck on that proverbial hamster wheel of going through the motions everyday and missing that feeling of experiencing something new and exciting. So as I dive back into writing (in the tiny slivers of free time I have nowadays), please enjoy the stories of my travels, no matter how far. Some of these stories are true, some are fiction based on observations I am making about things I see around me. Please enjoy, and please excuse my occasional rambling because it’s nice to talk to people who are older than 2 years old, and sometimes I get a little chatty when I’m around other people who aren’t toddlers because— well, you know. Also, please excuse my occasional run-on sentences because I’m probably typing with one hand and drinking a thrice reheated cup of coffee with the other, all while petting two dogs, playing with LEGOs, and getting dinner on the table. Multitasking at its finest!
Cheers.
